A new version of LuaJIT by Mike Pall was just released.
It's an implementation of Lua that include a Just-In-Time compiler. For certain kind of scripts, performance can enjoy a very interesting boost.

I mention it as an occasion to remind about the interesting possibilities of using Lua as an embeddable scripting engine for out applications. Lua it's designed to be very easy integrated, so usually with just a bit of coding you can open a door to some very interesting uses.

Sometimes ago I posted a couple of very simple examples on the PB forums:
Using Lua to quickly build a spellchecker
PowerBLua: runtime expression parsing made simpe

As a realworld-sample, here's a Dogwaffle plugin I made, that implement a scriptable interface to control the painting program trough scripts:
DogLua - Project Dogwaffle Lua scriptable interface - Samples scripts & effects

Hope this can give some ideas & inspirations!
Bye!
