Hi,

I finally found out how to create OpenGL 3.0 context in PowerBasic.
OpenGL 3.0 requieres different context creation than older versions.

To be able to work with OpenGL 3.0, you must have latest hardware, that means GeForce 8 or newer for NVIDIA.
To make the program run, you must download NVEmulate program and enable OpenGL 3.0 support in it. You can use OpenGL 3.0 without emulation since ForceWare 182.06.

Tested on my precious GeForce 9500GT, ForceWare 182.06 drivers.

One of advantages of OpenGL 3.0 is that is makes accessible latest hardware techniques (geometry shaders, ...) under Windows XP, while DirectX 9 does not support them and for DirectX 10 you must have Vista or better.

The sample is based 99% on José's SDK template for "legacy" OpenGL.

Check this thread for further updates, OpenGL 3.0 is still hot, so drivers have still long way to go support it well.
Not all hardware vendors support it yet.
This thread will keep the latest version of OpenGL 3.0 template for you.

Hi,

since ForceWare 182.06 it is possible to run OpenGL 3.0 without need for emulation tools.

I would like to ask owners of new (HD series) ATi cards to check whether OpenGL 3.0 sample above runs on them too, it should, with drivers Catalyst 9.2 and newer.

I would like to ask owners of S3 Chrome 500 cards to check whether OpenGL 3.0 sample above runs on them too, it should :).

Petr,

I know you asked to test this code with an ATI card.
Just in case i checked it on my NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT and VISTA 64, but i couldn't get it to work.

Cordialy.

Thanks for the test Patrice,

very important information for me. It seems 64bit drivers are not ready yet :(
It seems all are still tuning - ATi fixed lot of important things in 9.2 release.

Does the template crash or displays "Can't create an OpenGL 3.0+ rendering context"?

Petr,

No it doesn't GPF, it says politely "Can't create an OpenGL 3.0+ rendering context"

;)
