OpenGL 4.1, yes it is here

New OpenGL specification is out,

numbered 4.1. The additions present are quite welcome, my favourite are:

  • Loading shader binaries (I wish this would be present on GL 3.0 hardware as well)
  • Shader-stencil interop
  • Further OpenGL-OpenCL interop enabled, now with events

You can read the specs with changes since 4.0 marked here:

The supported hardware models ares NVIDIA GeForce GT4xx series and ATi Radeon 5xxx series (hardware tesselator required).

The first vendor implementations already pop up, have look (in case you have the metal to run it on):

Khronos finally provides complete reference pages for all paths of OpenGL.
